Paragraph 175

Two lovers are torn apart by Hitler’s little known but relentless persecution of gays: one becomes a prisoner; the other his captor. In the vein of Schindler’s List and Brokeback Mountain, the historical fiction novel Paragraph 175 will fill your heart with every emotion — from joy to despair and everything in between.

Paragraph 175 was first written as a screenplay and was included in the top 10 inaugural Glaad List. It was also a featured screenplay on the Black List and was an Academy Nicholl Fellowship semifinalist.

Black List Reviews

The Black List’s annual list of the most liked unproduced scripts has included Oscar-winning films such as JUNO, THE KING’S SPEECH, and ARGO. In addition to scripts, the Black List is now showcasing unpublished novels reviewed by industry professionals. I was honored to be asked to join the first group of authors. Each quote below is from a separate Black List reviewer who read the first 120 pages of my novel titled Paragraph 175.

“The complexity of Julian and August’s relationship due to the social-political climate heightens the inherent stakes and heartache in this delicately woven story full of sacrifice and peril. As the narrative progresses, this book only becomes more difficult to put down as the reader barrels onward, desperate to learn how August ended up becoming a nazi and whether Julian will survive Sachsenhausen.”

“The prose is consistently gripping. Historical descriptions of Berlin, the Eldorado, the Institute of Sexual Research, and the prisoner's camp are especially well done. Pacing is superb and language is engaging.”
